Website Content:
Adding Content Pages for Great Reading
Adding content pages is the number one thing you can do to increase your website traffic and ultimately your income! Writing content pages with great headlines will keep your reader engaged and help your ranking with the search engines.
In order to get your site ranked at the top of the search engines, you should be using three levels of pages on your website. The first level is your home page and is sometimes called your tier 1 level or page. Its file name is usually index.html but it can also be designated as default.html or it could have several other file exptensions.
The second level should be your tier 2 pages which are major topics or sub-topics within your site that link to your content pages. Think of these as landing pages your visitors will come to as a result of an Internet search and from which they can explore the rest of your website. Adding content pages for your tier 2 pages can be thought of as major buckets or categories of information on your website.
The bulk of your website will be in the form of tier 3 content pages. Each of these pages is typically focused on one or more keywords. They are the one that will produce the biggest results for you in terms sales and traffic because they contain the specific information about the keywords that your visitors are searching for. Adding content pages for your tier 3 pages can be thought of as discrete pieces of information that live in the buckets or categories above.
People search for specific information by entering keywords in the search engines. By providing the specific information they are looking for on your tier three pages, you will get the traffic.
If you ever get stuck on some other part of your website, spending your time adding content pages will be time well spent.
The concept behind adding content pages to your website is that they give search engines more opportunities to find your website. If you sites had only a home page and a tier 2 page to offer, you're not going to score very well in the search results because those pages contain topics that are more general than the very specific topics that your visitors are searching for.
That's why you provide a lot of very specific content pages that are all related to your overall tier 2 category and and overall website theme.
If you have added content pages that focus on very specific topics and keywords that are related to your tier 1 and tier 2 pages, you should be able to rank well for these terms in the search engines.
By providing a lot of high quality content pages that are related to your overall theme, the search engines will crawl your site and make a determination that you are a quality source for information about your topic. When they do that, your pages will place higher in the search results.
Adding Content Pages Focused on a Singular Topic
One of the most important things you can do to increase your website traffic and income is to write a series of pages focused on a singular topic and keyword phrase that is related to your overall website theme.
What you write about for these content pages depends on your objectives for your website, but they might include pages such as
Company Information
If you already have a brick and mortar or an online business, you might provide information about your business such as your location, contact information, current sales or promotions, the history of your business, the expertise of the business principals, and anything else that could go toward building your trust and credibility.
Articles
Articles can be written to provide information on specific topics for your visitors. I've done this on my old-woodworking-tools site by writing articles on old tool manufacturers or models of specific machines.
Each article or page provides information about a specific machine, manufacturer, or related topic. they provide details and focused information and result in website traffic from visitors searching for that specific information.
Product Reviews
Product reviews are especially good for affiliate websites and for products that are currently offered in the marketplace that you can send your visitors to buy after reading your review. Product reviews can be for your own products or those of affiliates. Favorable reviews will pre-sell your visitor so they are more likely to purchase the product once they've read your review.
I've done that on my www.guidesandtutorials.com podcasting pages where I've written reviews about certain microphones or audio editing software that I recommend. I write about the microphone or software and include links to merchants that I'm affiliated with and that sell the product.
Content Page Titles to Inform the Search Engines
Choosing a good title for your content page, along with an appropriate file name, is one of the more important things you do to ensure that the search engines will recognize your page for the content it contains.
Your page title should include the keyword or phrase for which the page is about. It should be included between the <title>Your Page Title Goes Here</title> in the head section of your page and is what is displayed by the browsers in the page title bar at the top of the browser window.
Here's what it looks like for this page. Notice that the tile includes the keyword phrase, "adding content pages." For my site, I also chose to include the name of my website along with the page title.
![]()
And when the page displays in a browser, the page title is displayed in the page title bar at the top of the browser window.

Content Page File Names Make a Difference
The file name you choose for your tier 3 content pages is also very important. Search engines look at the name of your HTML file to better determine the subject of the web page. Using a non de script page name such as page45.html doesn't provide any information to the search engine.
If is much better to include the page title, or the keywords and phrases for the page content in the name of the HTML file. This page for example used the file name, adding-content-pages.html.

Not only does this file name provide information to the search engines about the subject of the page, but it is also consistent with the title of the page and the keywords and phrases that are included in the keyword meta data in the page header.
All of these strategies help to inform the search engine about the topic of the web page.
There are different opinions as to whether or not you should use hyphens in the file name or not and we don't know if Google and other search engines value one method over another. What we do know, however, is that the words are easier to view and distinguish from one another when using hyphens between them than when not.
I could have named the file addingcontentpages.html, but in my view it wouldn't look as clear or be as easy to see for the visitor. Remember the page file name is included in the path to the file location on your website that is displayed under the page description on the search results page. It it's clear to your visitor the topic of the page, they are more likely to click on it and visit your website.
Write Powerful and Interesting Headlines - Grab Your Readers Attention!
Headlines are the first opportunity you have to grab your visitor and get him/her reading further down the web page. It's your chance to write an attention getting interesting headline that will get his/her interest in what you have to say.
You headlines should be in a larger font and made to stand out from the rest of the text on your page. Use the heading tags to identify your headlines so they stand out and so the search engines understand the logical organization of your page.
A good headline should tell your visitor what the page or section is about. Most people will scan your web pages. They won't read every word. Instead, they'll scan the headlines, see if their is anything that interests them. They'll stop if there is or move on to the next page or website if there isn't
Use colorful and descriptive text in your headlines whenever possible. Include your specific keyword or phrase where possible and include them early in the headline.
Using Content Page Heading to Make Them Stand Out
Headings and sub-headings are the way you logically organize the content on your web page. Headings are usually larger than other text on your page and they are sometimes a different color or in bold to make them stand out.
Search engines also know that the tags that identify the headings help to logically organize the structure and content of your web page. Using relevant headings and sub-headings on your content pages is another strategy for getting found and ranked by the search engines.
Headings are identified to the search engines by enclosing the text of the heading in heading tags. The first and most important heading on your page should be enclosed in the <h1>Heading 1</h1> tags.
Other headings are shown using the lesser sub-heading tags such as those shown below.
This is how the headings are formatted for this page.
<h2>Heading 2</h2>
<h3>Heading 3</h3>
<h4>Heading 4</h4>
<h5>Heading 5</h5>
<h6>Heading 6</h6>
