Thanks to your purchase, that web site owner earned a 5% commission on the price of your new boots. He made $7.45 because you made a purchase as a result of clicking on an ad on his web site. He doesn't even know who you are or that you visited his web page, but he's still going to get paid a commission on that sale.

That's how affiliate marketing works! Isn't that great.... you create a web page about some topic that you know a lot about or are really interested in. You sign up to be an affiliate with some merchants that sell products or services that are related to your web site and any time someone clicks on one of those affiliate links on your web site and makes a purchase, you earn a commission. You can literally be making money while you're sleeping!

There are thousands of companies that advertise on the Internet and have affiliate marketing programs. They're willing to pay a performance-based commission if you can drive customers to their web sites by promoting their products and services. To do this you join the affiliate programs run by these companies. Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to get started making money online.
