Blogger

While there are many, many blogging applications available, one of the easiest platforms to use is Blogger. Blogger is owned by Google and it's tied in with several other Google applications. Setting up a Blogger account is free and you don't need a separate hosting account to use it. It's also pretty simple.

Using Blogger

Blogger makes getting started quite simple. To create your blog to www.blogger.com and sign up. You'll see the Blogger homepage. Click on the "Create A Blog" button to begin. If you don’t already have a Google Account, you'll create one.

Then you can create your first blog. You’ll choose a name and an address (if it's available) from Blogger. Then you'll choose a template and off you go. Your blog is ready for your content. All you need to do now is begin writing articles.

When you set up your Blogger account and create your first blog, the URL will be something like http://whateveryourblogname.blogger.com. For instance, I just set one up at http://make1000amonthonline.blogspot.com.

Depending on what you want to do with your blog, you may want to buy your own domain name like www.make1000permonth.com and point it to your Blogger web site. Search engines usually like a domain name like this instead of a sub domain of Blogger. If you're trying to make money from your blog or you're trying to establish your brand, buying your own domain name is a good idea.

Once you've purchased your domain name, you will be provided instructions on how to point your new domain name to your blog site.

What are the Differences Between Blogger and WordPress

My tool of choice for blog web sites is WordPress. Wordpress also has thousands of users who are developing add-ons and plug-ins to extend its functionality and make it more useful.

I've used both and have found that WordPress is a much more robust and powerful platform to build a web site. Blogger is much simpler and in some ways easier, but it has far fewer features than WordPress. Blogger is probably easier to learn and use for beginners and so for that reason, it's a good tool of choice for someone without much experience developing for the Web.

WordPress is getting so robust that it is now being compared to content management systems such as Joomla and Drupal. But with that robustness, comes a higher level of complexity and is somewhat more difficult for novices to use.

Making Money with a Blog vs. Web site

Making a good income with blogging is much more difficult than you might imagine and will all endeavors of this kind, takes a lot of work to be successful.

There are exceptions to this and some who are making large sums of money by blogging. There are also a lot of people who aren’t making any money at all because they can’t get traffic or a following on their blog.

My personal experience is that it is far easier to make money from a good high value web site than it is from a blog.
