Business Goals for Website Planning

When planning any website, it is vital to consider what you're hoping to achieve as a business or organization in the next 24 months. If you're very clear in what you want to achieve as a business, then you can begin to think about the ways that your website will help you achieve this.

You may not have any clearly defined goals for your business, but you probably have a good idea in your head about what you want your business to do over the next couple of years. You should have this in your business plan. If not, before you begin to create your website, you need to think about the goals of your business, your little league, school or whatever your "business" is. Once you've identified your business or organizations goals, you can begin to consider how your website can help achieve those.

To gain some clarity about your business goals, consider the questions below and how important each one is to your business.

• Do you want to grow your business? By how much?
• Do you want to reduce costs? Where and by how much?
• Do you want to improve your marketing?
• Do you want to increase your customer base or reach a larger audience?
• Do you want to improve efficiency?
• Do you want to improve customer service?
• Do you want to launch a new product or service?

Before you begin any work on your website, write down your business goals for the next 24 months.

The goals for my web business were pretty simple:

1. I want to retire from work at 55. To do that I need $$ from my web business to supplement my retirement.
2. I want to earn enough money from my web business to make my monthly house payment
3. I want my website to support my Ebay business

The goals for your web business may be just as simple or they might be more complicated. The important thing is that you have realy clarity about what your business goals are and you write them down.
