Changing Links Sitewide

This tutorial will show you how to change links sitewide in Dreamweaver CS5

Let's look at one other important situation relating to changing links.

Let's suppose that I have a whole site dedicated to providing information for visitors to Australia, and that in fact my page on Sydney is just one of several dozen pages covering different cities and tourist attractions.

Looking again at my page on Sydney, and the link at the top, note that I have the visa information on a page called Australia visa information.html.

You can see the name of my page in the Link box in the Properties Panel.

Now, I decide that I should really link to the Australian Government's own information on visas, and I have the URL for that. It's http://www.immi.gov.au/.

I know how to make that change, and could just go ahead and do it, but it could mean doing the change in several dozen places, which could take a long time.

Well, Dreamweaver provides a function to make a sitewide change to a link.

Click the Site menu, then select Change Link Sitewide...

You are then presented with the Change Link Sitewide dialog.

Enter the "old" link and the "new" link.

Then press OK. The Update Files dialog appears, listing the pages where the "old" link occurs and asking you to confirm that these are the ones to change.

Click Update and the changes are made.

We can check the new link in Live view and we see that the new linked page is being reached OK.
