Creating Files

This tutorial will illustrate creating files in Dreamweaver CS5

Now that you've found out what the Files Panel can do, let's make it do a bit more.

You can use the Files Panel to open or create files, for example.

Select the correct site - in this case Site1.

Right click on one of the site files - in this case I've chosen Page-1.html - and then select Open from the menu.

The page now opens and is ready for me to work on.

In fact, you can open a file from the Files Panel by double-clicking. Try that yourself!

One important point to note about opening files like this is that Dreamweaver uses a default application to open the type of file you have selected. You can control which application it uses for each file type using the File Types/Editors category on the Preferences dialog.

Here I have set IExplore as the default application to use if I open GIF files.

You can also create a new file from the Files Panel. Select the folder in which you want the new file to appear, or any file in the folder, right click and choose New File from the top of the menu.

A new file is created in the selected folder, and Dreamweaver places the cursor in the filename so that you can name it yourself.

I've chosen the name Page-2.html
