Find and Replace Text and HTML
This tutorial shows you how to find and replace text and HTML in Dreamweaver CS5.
For this section we're going to need a document with a reasonable amount of text, so I'm going to use an article about the Australian city of Sydney. The article is poorly formatted, and needs quite a bit of work done to it to make it look good. However, first I need to change some of the text.

I need to change a term in the article. Wherever I find the abbreviation SOH I need to change it to Sydney Opera House.
Dreamweaver provides a powerful facility to help me with this job.
Select the Edit menu, then Find and Replace...

This invokes the Find and Replace dialog.

There are then a number of options to select from.
First, specify the scope of the search using the Find In box. Do you want Dreamweaver to search the entire local site, just selected text or the current document only, for example?

Now tell Dreamweaver whether you want it to search text on pages or the code of your website, for example.

You also need to specify what you want Dreamweaver to search for. In this case it's the abbreviation SOH. If you want Dreamweaver to replace the search term with something else, enter that into the Replace box.
There are then some options at the bottom of the dialog, including Match Case. If this is checked Dreamweaver will find SOH but not soh. You can also specify that Dreamweaver should only look for the search item as one or more whole words. I've checked this box as I want Dreamweaver to find SOH but not Soho.
Here is the completed dialog, ready to do the find and replace operation.

The buttons on the right are used to perform the required operation. Click on Find Next and the first occurrence is found and highlighted.

However, to deal with most of the options we need to use the Results Panel, and we're going to look at that in the next section.
