Link Building with Squidoo
Link building with Squidoo and HubPages is one of the most important things you can do to promote your website so it gets ranked higher in the search engines. No link building campaign can be considered complete without using the free services of Squidoo Lens and HubPages Hubs. They are great ways to generate traffic for your website.
Squidoo and HubPages are the kind of social media sites that prove to offer the kind of contextual backlinks that the search engines seem to like.
Basically you want to join these two free sites and publish unique articles covering the topics on your website. Within each article, you can use keywords as anchor text links back to your own website.
There is no limit to how many Squidoo Lens or HubPages that you can create to promote your websites.
Squidoo Pages
Squidoo is a popular free publishing platform and community that makes it easy for you to create simple web pages online called “lenses”. Lenses are pages, kind of like flyers or overview articles, that gather everything you know about your topic of interest and snap it all into focus. It’s also a fun, simple way to publish your own lenses for free.
If you main site is about old woodworking tools, for example, you might want to create a Squidoo lens on this topic and link it to your website. That’s one way to get backlinks and also publicize and build traffic for your website.
You can also make some money with Squidoo as they share their ad revenue. If you create a Squidoo lens that makes money from ad revenue or Amazon, they’ll share it with you or let you donate it to a charity.
You don’t have to have your own affiliate accounts to advertise on Squidoo. Squidoo maintains the relationship with the advertiser and pays you a portion of the ad revenue via PayPal.
On Squidoo, each page is called a lens. Once you have an account, you'll login and see a dashboard that includes all the tools you'll need to publish a page. Simply click on the link that says "Make a new lens." You can also add images to your lens.

HubPages
HubPages is an online place to share your advice, reviews, useful tips, opinions and insights with hundreds of other authors. Here’s an example of a “Hub” I created about Stanley Woodworking Planes. I use this to build traffic to my Old-Woodworking-Tools website. It also give me another backlink that Google will like and it provides some useful information to the HubPage users.
A hub is a web page on any topic. Hubs can include links, photos, video, and all the text you like. They are easy to create and there is a Hub Tool to get you started.
Like Squidoo, the site is designed around sharing advertising revenue for high quality user-generated content but there is a difference. On Hubpages, you must have your own affiliate accounts with Amazon, Google AdSense, Kontera, Ebay, and other advertisers. You’re paid directly by the advertiser, not Hubpages.
HubPages is a little more difficult to use than Squidoo and you'll have to be careful not to create a page that has too many outbound links to your own website. HubPages seems to want the content on their site, not just a place to link to other content.
There are many other social media sites that you can use for link building purposes, but Squidoo Lens and HubPages Hubs seem to be two of the most popular sites being used by those who understand advanced search engine optimization.
