Making money on the Internet? Yeah, it can be done, but overnight Millions! -- Sorry, that's not going to happen. Even though you've heard people say you can get rich overnight on the Internet, the odds are astronomical. But, if you're serious about a web business and making money on the Internet, and you're not afraid of doing a little work, making a serious income from the Web is possible.

There's no easy get rich quick scheme for making money on the Internet... no magic bullet, instant web site or anything else that's going to make that happen. Making money on the Internet takes time, effort, and a little bit of knowledge.

It took me over two years before I had made enough mistakes and figured enough out to earn just $1,000 a month. Now that I know what I'm doing, my Internet business is rapidly growing and I'm excited about the possibilities.

There are a lot of ways to make money on the Internet and I'm certain that one of them will work for you. The one thing that all Internet businesses have in common with one another is high traffic. You've got to get lots of traffic to your web site in order to make any serious money and that's really the only secret to making money online.

I have two money making websites and I'm working on five others. I just started the Coolest Holiday Decorations website at http://www.coolest-holiday-decorations.com and I'm also working on Coolest Handmade Crafts.com. I'm going to use both of these sites as a test case to try out some different strategies for making money on the Internet and I'll document what I do and the progress I'm making here on this site.

Coolest Holiday Decorations takes advantage of some of SiteSells tools for allowing your website visitors to create their own content on your website. This is a real advantage for the website owner, because your visitors are creating content for you that provides you with more opportunities to monetize those pages.

Here are some ways you can make money on the Internet

Banner Ads

Banner ads are not as popular as they once were but for a web site that gets a lot of traffic, they can still generate a fair income. It used to be that companies would pay a monthly feel to webmasters to post banner ads on their site. As use of banner ads has declined in popularity, most advertisers now pay only when the ad is clicked on. This is known as pay-per-click advertising. There are a lot of better ways to make money on the Internet than selling banner ads.

Google Adsense

Google AdSense is one of the easiest ways for making money on the Internet. You create a content rich high quality web site that attracts people seeking the kind of information you are providing. Google loves that fact that you've created an information rich web site that people are searching for. They are more than glad to display links to your site on the search results when people use your keywords as search terms. More than that, they'll help you display relevant, text-based and image-based ads on your site and pay you every time one of your visitors clicks on one of them. In-Text Advertising

In-Text advertising is a way to advertise on your web site with out displaying ads. Instead little snippets of code are placed on your site by companies that provide in-text advertising. This code helps to identify a few keywords in the copy of your page and turn them into links that when hovered over, display a relevant ad. If your visitor clicks on one of the ads, you're paid a fee for every click. I use a couple of in-text advertisers on some of my web sites and for me they generate about 15 to 20 percent of what I earn from Google every month. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate programs pay you a commission on the sales that are generated by people who've visited your web site and click on a link to the affiliates site where they make a purchase. This is one of the best ways to make money on the Internet. I'm an affiliate for the Rockler woodworking supply company. I post links to their site and products on my old-woodworking-tools web site Every time one of my visitors follows a link to the Rocker web site and makes a purchase, I get 5% of every sale. Selling a Product or Service

The Internet is the perfect place for selling a product or service. Think of how large the customer base is if you can build a web site that is found by people looking for the very information you are providing. I live in a small town of about 100,000 people and there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of people on the Internet that could be my customers. Ebay

Believe it or not, if you've got a product to sell than can be delivered either digitally through email or through the US Post Office, UPS, Federal Express or some other hard goods delivery service, selling on Ebay can be a great way to make money and using Ebay in conjunction with our web site can be a great combination. I do two things with Ebay to make money. I've sold thousands of dollars in goods on Ebay by using my web site to drive traffic to my auctions. You can also:

1. I use it to help drive traffic to my web site by listing a link to my site in the description of every item I post on Ebay. I've even found that a lot of other Ebay sellers link to some of my web pages that provide information about the items they are selling on an auction. That just helps to increase the traffic to my website.
2. I use my web site to drive traffic to the products I'm selling on Ebay.
