Managing File and Folders Dreamweaver CS5
This tutorial will illustrate managing files and folders in Dreamweaver CS5.
As we've seen, you can use the Files Panel to create new files and open existing ones.
You can also perform a number of other maintenance functions, and we're going to look at some more of those here.
Manage Files and Folders
For example, suppose that I no longer need the file Page2.html in Site1.
First select Site1 in the Files Panel, then select Page2.html. Right click and select Edit and there is a fly-out menu.

One of the options on the fly-out menu is Delete. Select that and Dreamweaver asks you to confirm the deletion.

Click on OK and the file is deleted.
Note that you can delete a whole site folder if you want to. Select the folder then proceed as above. Deleting the folder deletes all the files in it, including any sub-folders and their contents.
One of the other options on the fly-out menu is Rename. Let me rename Page-2.html to Page-22.html. First, right click on Page-2,html, then click Edit then Rename.

Dreamweaver selects the part of the filename before the "." (note that it doesn't invite you to change the file extension) and you can type a new name to overwrite what was there before. When you've finished typing, press Enter or click elsewhere in the window.

Note that you can also rename site folders.
To create a new site folder select the folder you want it to be sub-folder of, right click and select New Folder. For example, to create a folder at the same level as Templates in Site1, select the Site folder (root folder), and right click.

Select New Folder and the folder is created. Dreamweaver invites you to enter a name. Enter a suitable name. When you've finished typing, press Enter or click elsewhere in the window.

One other very useful feature is the ability to move files and folders around. An easy way to do this is to "drag and drop", just as you would in Windows Explorer.
For example, to move Page-22.html into the new folder created above, select Page-22 with the mouse and hold down the left mouse button, drag it over Test Folder 1 and release the mouse button.
Here you can see Page-22.html in its new location.
