Modifying a Table

This tutorial illustrates modifying a table in Dreamweaver CS5

In order to be able to modify a table you need to be able to select it or any part of it.

Let's return to the table we inserted in the previous section.

If you need to modify the whole table you need to select it. Position the cursor somewhere inside the table, select the Modify menu then hover over Table. This fly-out appears.

Click on Select and the whole table is selected. (Note the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+A.)

Note the border with sizing handles around the table. An easy way of resizing the whole table now is to drag it by its sizing handles. Here I've increased the width to 640 pixels. Note that Dreamweaver increases row heights and column widths in proportion.

To delete a table, use the above approach to select the whole table then press the Del (Delete) key.

To select an individual column, click inside the column then on the column arrow. From the menu click on Select Column.

To select a row click the border at the left or right hand end of the row. The row is selected.

With the row selected, change its height by dragging on the lower edge. Here's the result of changing the height of the individual row.

It's possible to select a single cell by placing the cursor in it and pressing Ctrl+Click. To select a range of cells, click in the first then drag to the last.

With a cell selected, resize it by dragging the edges.
