Dreamweaver CS5:
Setting the Home Page
This tutorial will illustrate setting the home page in Dreamweaver CS5.
Even if you've never created a web page before and you've only viewed other peoples' web sites you'll be familiar with the concept of a home page. This is usually the first page that your visitors will see when they enter your site. The convention is to call this page index.htm or index.html, a tradition that originated from the earliest web sites where the home page was often an index to the site.
What generally happens is that a potential visitor types a web URL - e.g. www.TAsite964.com - and the web server that is hosting that site will look for a page using a range of possible home page names until it finds one that exists. When you get to the point of publishing your web site, don't forget to check with the hosting company what name you should use for the home page.
Let's call ours index.html. But, rather than create a new page, let's rename Page-22.html and move it to the root folder.
First of all, select Site1 in the Files Panel.

Then select Page-22.html, right click, select Edit and then Rename from the fly-out menu.

Enter the new name of index.html.

Now drag index.html to the root folder of Site1.

index.html is now suitably named to be the home page.
