Types of Websites

There are tons of different types of websites that you could create and which one you choose will largely depend on your website objectives and what you want it to do for you.

My objectives for a web business were to earn enough online income that I could retire early from my day job and work at home. I also want to supplement my retirement income once I decide to quit working. Knowing what my objectives were helped me to decide what type of website I wanted to create.

I've listed several of the different kinds of websites that you should consider before beginning to create one. Once you decide what type of website you want to create and you've done your research and planning, then you should purchase your domain name and find a web host where you'll upload your web pages.

Remember that a domain name is the address of your website and the extension at the end of the name and a web host is a company that provides you with space to put your files on a web server that they manage for you.

1. A Personal Website

A personal website could be anything you wanted to share about yourself, your family, hobbies, vacations, special interests, etc. You might include some basic text, pictures, and maybe some other media like audio (podcasts) or video.

You won't need a lot of expensive software or tools to create a personal website and you might consider using free tools and web space such as Google Pages to build your website. If you want more flexibility with your site, you will want to use some web editing software like Komposer or Coffee Cup which are free editors or you might want to invest in a more advanced and powerful web editor like Adobe Dreamweaver.

You could also choose to learn how to code your own HTML from scratch using s simple text editor like Notepad or Wordpad on a PC or a similar text editor on a Mac. No matter what method you choose, I recommend that you learn some basics about HTML because sometimes even with the most advanced web editor, you still have to go behind the scenes to the code to make changes or tweaks to get the results you want.

2. Make Money with Google AdSense Website

Google Adsense is wonderful program where you create your own web content and then partner with Google to display ads on your web pages that are related to the content of your website. By providing relevant ads on your site to what your visitors are trying to find, they are much more likely to click on one of the ads. When they do, Google pays your a percentage of the ad revenue every time an ad is clicked on.

A Google AdSense website is a great way to begin making money in a web business if you can create good quality content that others using the Web are looking for. In order to make money with AdSense you also have to be able to create a lot of targeted traffic.... that is you must be able to attract a large number of visitors to your website each day that are interested in the topic of your website.

Targeted traffic means visitors who are interested in what you are providing.

How much AdSense income you earn will be dependent on your ability to generate a lot of traffic. The more traffic you get to your website, the more income you will earn. I make a decent part time income from two of my sites, one of which gets almost 3,000 visitors per day and the other about 800. Both of these websites grow each month as I ad more pages and my AdSense income grows accordingly.

3. Make Money with an Affiliate Marketing Website

You can make money with an affiliate marketing website when your visitor makes a purchase as a result of clicking on one or your affiliate links. Take vacum cleaners, for example. You could create a site all about vacume cleaners. Perhaps it will include information about certain vacum cleaner models and it might include customer reviews. You can embed affiliate links in the articles on your web pages and when a user clicks on one of your links and makes a purchase, you're paid a commission.

Affiliate marketing sites work best with narrow niches. The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you can earn money without having your own product.
