Using Horizontal Rules

This tutorial illustrates using horizontal rules in Dreamweaver CS5.

We're now going to add another basic tool to our toolkit for formatting pages, and that is the use of a horizontal rule.

Look again at this page.

We're going to put a horizontal rule between the second and third sentences.

Position the cursor at the start of the third sentence, then click on the Insert menu.

Hover over HTML on the menu and you will see a fly-out menu.

Select Horizontal Rule, and a rule is inserted into the text.

Note how the rule occupies its own line, and the third sentence now appears below it.

Once you have the horizontal rule in place, you can modify its properties. Select the rule by clicking it. You will see the Properties Panel change to show that a horizontal rule is selected.

Now experiment with changing the settings. Here I've changed the width to 50% of the available page width, and I've changed the height to 10 pixels. I've also specified that the rule should be center aligned.
