Using the Results Panel

This tutorial illustrates using the results panel in Dreamweaver CS5.

In the previous section we looked at the Dreamweaver Find and Replace facility, and ended that section part way through an operation to replace the abbreviation SOH with the name Sydney Opera House throughout a document.

In this section we're going to look at the use of the Results Panel to complete this operation.

First of all, here is where we had got to in the previous section.

If instead of clicking Find Next I click Find All I see the Results Panel appear at the bottom of the screen, and in it all occurrences of the Find term are listed.

It's important to realize that the Results Panel will hold the results of your latest operation until you perform another one. So, in this case, if I select Close from the Results Panel's menu as shown here and the panel closes, I have not lost what I have done or where I have got to.

Once the Results Panel is closed, just click on the Window menu and check Results Panel again.

The Results Panel has a number of tabs, and the Search tab is the one that holds the results of performing a Find All or Replace All.

There is a small button in the top left of the Search tab on the Results Panel that has a tool tip of Find and Replace. Clicking this button shows the Find and Replace dialog again.

Now press Replace All on the Find and Replace dialog.

The Results Panel lists all of the replacements that have been made. With each replacement a short section of text around and including the new text is shown in the list.

To locate and show any of the replacements, double click on the bullet to the left. Here I've double clicked on the second replacement of three, and I can see that replacement in the body of the document.
