Placement of Your Google Ads on Your Webpage NEW

More importantly than where you place your Google ads is developing a page that satisfies the needs of your visitors. The placement of Google ads should be secondary to providing great usable content on your site. Once that's done, the decision of where to place your Google ads on your page really depends on your content.

Google suggests that you consider the following when deciding where to place your Google ads.

- What is the user trying to accomplish by visiting my site

- What do they do when viewing a particular page?

- Where is their attention likely to be focused?

- How can I integrate ads into this area without getting in the users way?

- How can I keep the page looking clean, uncluttered and inviting?

These are all great things to consider because each focuses on the user experience once they arrive at your web page.

You'll need to do some experimentation on your website, but most of the data about the placement of Google ads indicates that certain locations are more successful then others. Certain size ads are also more successful than others and should also be considered.

This "heat map" is provided by Google and illustrates the ideal placing on a sample page layout. The colors fade from dark orange (strongest performance) to light yellow (weakest performance). All other things being equal, ads located above the fold tend to perform better than those below the fold. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids usually do well because users are focused on those areas of a page.
